From the Gospel according to St. MATTHEW.
for they shall obtain
8 Bleffed are the pure in heart: for they fhall fee God.
9 Bleffed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Bleffed are they which are perfecuted for righteoufnefs' fake: for their's is the
ND feeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was fet, his difciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, faying,
3 Bleffed are the poor in T fpirit: for their's is the king-kingdom of heaven. dom of heaven.
4 Bleffed are they that mourn for they fhall be comforted.
5 Bleffed are the meek: for they fhall inherit the earth.
6 Bleffed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they fhall be filled.
7 Bleffed are the merci
II Bleffed are ye when men fhall revile you, and perfecute you, and fhall fay all manner of evil against you falfely for my fake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad for great is your reward in heaven: for fo perfecuted they the prophets which were before you.

13¶Ye are the falt of the [nefs fhall exceed the righteearth but if the falt have oufness of the fcribes and loft his favour, wherewith Pharifees, ye fhall in no cafe fhall it be falted? it is thence- enter into the kingdom of forth good for nothing but heaven. to be caft out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is fet on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light 22. 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Agree with thine adverfary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him: left at any time the adverfary dedom of heaven: but whofo-liver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be caft into prifon.
19 Whofoever therefore fhall break one of these least commandments, and fhall teach men fo, he fhall be called the least in the king

16 Let your light fo fhine before men, that they may fee your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
17 Think not that I am come to deftroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to deftroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I fay unto you, Till heaven and earth pafs, one jot or one tittle fhall in no wife pafs from the law, till all be fulfilled.
21 Ye have heard that it was faid by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whofoever fhall kill, shall be in danger of the judgement :
ever fhall do, and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

34 But I fay unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne:
28 But I fay unto you, That whofoever looketh on a woman to luft after her, hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and caft it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members fhould perifh, and not that thy whole body should be caft into hell.
30 And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and caft it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members fhould perifh, and not that thy whole body fhould be caft into hell.
32 But I fay unto you, That whofoever fhall put away his wife, faving for the caufe of fornication, caufeth her to commit adultery: and whofoever fhall marry her that is divorced, committeth adultery.
35 Nor by the earth, for it is his footstool: neither by Jerufalem, for it is the city of the great King.
36 Neither fhalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canft not make one hair white or black.
31 It hath been faid, Whofoever fhall put away his wife, let him give her a wri-him the other also. ting of divorcement:

41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that afketh thee; and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. B 2

43 Ye have heard that a trumpet before thee, as the it hath been faid, Thou fhalt hypocrites do, in the fynalove thy neighbour, and hate gogues, and in the streets, thine enemy. that they may have glory of men. Verily I fay unto you, they have their reward.
44 But I fay unto you, Love your enemies, blefs them that curfe you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which defpitefully ufe you, and perfecute
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his fun to rife on the evil and on the good, and fendeth rain on the juft and on the unjuft.
47 And if ye falute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans fo?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
3 But when thou doeft alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth : That thine alms may 4 be in fecret: and thy Father which feeth in fecret, himfelf fhall reward thee openly.
46 For if ye love them fynagogues, and in the corwhich love you, what rewardners of the ftreets, that they have ye? do not even the may be feen of men. Verily publicans the fame? I fay unto you, they have
AKE heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be feen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doeft thine alms, do not found
5¶ And when thou prayeft, thou fhalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they, love to pray ftanding in the
6 But thou, when thou prayeft, enter into thy closet, and when thou haft fhut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in fecret; and thy Father which feeth in fecret fhall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they fhall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye afk him, After this manner therefore
fore pray ye: Our Father | felves treasures upon earth, where moth and ruft doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and fteal:
which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
II Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
22 The light of the body is the eye if therefore thine -14 For, if ye forgive eye be fingle, thy whole men their trefpaffes, your hea-body fhall be full of light. venly Father will alfo forgive you :

16 Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a fad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to faft. Verily I fay unto you, they have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
20 But lay up for yourfelves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor ruft doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal :
18 That thou appear not unto men to faft, but unto thy Father which is in fecret: and thy Father which feeth in fecret fhall reward thee openly.
19 Lay not up for your
21 For where your treafure is, there will your heart be alfo.
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or elfe he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I fay unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye fhall eat, or what ye fhall drink ; nor yet for your body, what ye fhall put on: Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they fow not, neither B 3. do
