temple, and saith unto him, "Behold, thou art healed; sin no more, lest something worse befal thee." The man went and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. Therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he had done this on the sabbathday.

MORE MIRACLES WROUGHT BY OUR

LORD.

(Matt. xv. 21-31; Mark vii. 32—37.)

THEN Jesus went thence,* and departed into the regions of Tyre and Sidon. And behold a Canaanitish woman of that country, came out and cried unto him, saying, "Have compassion on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my

daughter is grievously vexed with an evil spirit." But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, "Send her away, for she crieth after us." But he answered and said, "I am not sent, but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

Then she came and fell down before him, saying, "Lord, help me." But he answered and said, "It is not right to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs." And she said, "True, Lord; yet the dogs eat of the crumbs, which fall from their master's table." Then Jesus answered and said unto her, "O, woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou wilt." And her daughter was cured from that very hour.

Jesus departed thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and he went up into a mountain, and sat down there, And great multitudes came unto him,

having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others who were sick or diseased, and laid them at Jesus' feet and he cured them, insomuch that the multitudes wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see; and they glorified the God of Israel.

And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat, and touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said unto him, Epphatha," that is, "Be thou opened." And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake distinctly. And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so

were, beyond measure, astonished, saying, "He hath done all things well; he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak."

THE MULTITUDE FED A SECOND TIME. (Matthew xv. 32—39.)

THEN Jesus called his disciples unto him and said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat; and I am not willing to send them away fasting, lest they grow faint in the way." And his disciples say unto him, "Whence can we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to satisfy so great a multitude?" Jesus saith unto them, "How many loaves have ye?" And they said "Seven, and a few little fishes."

Then he commanded the multitude to

sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks and brake them; and he gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. And they that did eat, were four thousand men, besides women and children. And he sent away the multitude, and went on board a vessel, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

THE CURE OF A BLIND MAN AT
BETHSAIDA.

(Mark viii. 22-26.)

JESUS Cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and beseech him to touch him. Then he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit upon his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he
