Blessed are the poor in spirit,

Those who know and feel their need, Those who feel that not their merit Brings them help in time of need. Blessed, too, are all the mourners,

Those who grieve because of sin, Though surrounded now by scorners, They a crown of joy shall win. Blossed are the meek and lowly, They obey their loving Lord; Follow Him, their pattern holy, And receive their rich reward.

Blessed they who thirst and hunger; Living streams, and living bread, Come from Christ, the gracious Saviour, Who of yore His people fed.

And the pure in heart are blessed,

They the Saviour's conduct trace, And His footsteps follow closely,

Till they see Him face to face. Present blessing, future blessing They receive, who, sin forgiven, And their blessed Lord confessing, Make life's path the path to heaven.
