A Prayer for the Clergy and people. ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who

alone workest great marvels; Send down upon our Bishops, and Curates, and all Congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of thy grace; and that they may truly please thee, pour upon them the continual dew of thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honour of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us

grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplications unto thee; and dost promise, that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their requests: Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.

2 COR. xiii.

THE grace of our HE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all everAmen.

Upon these Feasts; Christmas-Day, the Epiphany, Saint Matthias, Easter-Day, Ascension-Day, Whit-Sunday, Saint John Baptist, Saint James, Saint Bartholomew, Saint Matthew, Saint Simon and Saint Jude, Saint Andrew, and upon TrinitySunday, shall be sung or said at Morning Prayer, instead of the Apostles' Creed, this Confession of our Christian Faith, commonly called The Creed of Saint ATHANASIUS, by the Minister and people standing.

HOSOEVER will be saved

before all

things it is necessary that he hold the Catholick Faith.

Which Faith except every one do keep whole and undefiled without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.

And the Catholick Faith is this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity.

Neither confounding the Persons: nor dividing the Substance.

For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one: the Glory equal, the Majesty co-eternal.

Such as the Father is, such is the Son : and such is the Holy Ghost.

These words were added at the Restoration.

1. In the 1! Book of Edw: Imas day, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension day, Whitsunday & Trinity Sunday were the only days. appointed for this creed: but in the 2nd it was injoined on S. Matthias & some other Saints' days, that to it migh be repeated every mouth once.

This creed is now generally ascribed to befiling, an african who lived towards the end of the 5th century. Being consi: : dured a valuable exposition it was adopted by most of the ancient westen Churches.

In repetition of all creeds, men address only one another, upon terms of squeality. —

some object that this creed is unintelligtle; but the Boctrines are not proposed to us to be understood, which wo be impossible, but assented to, or beleived. And if in some points other creeds are more easy, because they do not descend into the same par= ticulors: but they " for this reason the more likely to be conded; & explained away; aft wh this is intention To guard. And suppose it were omitted from service, we any one have clearer conceptions of the truthy it inculcates.. Again as with uncharitableness, the damnatory only strictly relates to the first four verses: Wh our Church holds as necessary to be beleived: the remainder to the 26th & 27th senses are, like a sermon, simply intended to illustrate this position: and a man is not bound o give his assent to there, & cordsmen all others who do "way word may
