THE SONG OF DELIVERANCE
(Exodus xv) Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying :
I will sing unto the Lord, for He hath triumphed glo
The Lord is a Man of war :
The Lord is His name.
His chosen captains also are drowned in the Red Sea.
The depths have covered them :
They sank into the bottom as a stone.
throwest them that rise up against Thee:
The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, and said "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments,

and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians : for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”'

THE GOLDEN CALF
(Exodus xxxii) Introductory Note.-Passing through the friendly land of Midian, the Israelites came into the great tangle of granite mountains known as Mount Sinai, a region which seems to have been regarded by all the surrounding peoples as the earthly abode of God. Moses, with one trustworthy follower, Joshua, the son of Nun, ascended one of the peaks to receive the commands of the Lord, leaving the host of Israel in the valley below in charge of his brother Aaron.
And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him: -"Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.”
And Aaron said unto them :-“Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.”
And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. And he received them at their hand, and fash
