Sander & Son's Eucalypti Extract (Eucalyptol).—In the article treating on inhalations of eucalyptus in cases of diphtheritis (Berlin Klin. Wochenschrift 1876, No. 21) by Prof. Dr. Mosler, Director of the Medical clinic of the University at Griefswald, it is stated: "The oleum eucalypti folies, I employed in my tests, I received through Holzle & Chelius, Frankfort-on-the-Main; it must not be mistaken for the more frequently offered oleum eucalypti australe which is obtained from the wood of the eucalyptus trees. This latter oil is used commonly for mechanical purposes and has a far cheaper price; it is, however, no longer applied by me as an internal medicament." We certify that the oleum eucalypti folies named in the Berlin Klin Wochenschrift, 1879, No. 21, and there mentioned to have been procured from us, was the product of Messrs. Sander & Sons, Sandhurst, Australia Holzle & Chelius, Frankfort-on-the-Main, Agents.

Dr. Angelo De Bellomi, of Citta di Amandoir, Italy, July 25nd, 1893, says: I am pleased to inform you of the successful results by the use of your Bromidia as hypnotic and sedative. I prescribed it for a lady suffering from severe vomiting due to pregnancy, and which threatened to cause abortion from denutrition. I had previously tried opium, chloroform, creosote, and oxalate of cerium, all without effect. I gave ten drops in a little sweet wine three times a day before meals. The vomiting ceased the first day, four days later was able to discontinue the use of Bromidia, and now after a month there has been no return of the vomiting, and the patient is perfectly well. I have found Bromida excellent in dilirium tremens accompained by insomnia, also in the delirium of typhoid, and in bronchitis with neurasthenia following influenza. In a case of chronic nephritis where all kinds of hyp-notics, anti-neuralgics and analgesics had failed to give relief, Bromidia, in doses of a teaspoonful morning and evening, gave relief at once; and in a few days effected a complete cure. After such encouraging results, I am sure Bromidia has a brilliant future before it.

Cascara Sagrada for Elimination of Uric Acid.—It seems to be theaccepted opinion that the pathology of uric acid is more a matter of defective elimination than excessive formation. Osler says "certain symptoms arise in connection with defective food or tissue metabolism, more particularly of the nitrogenous elements; and this faulty metabolism, if long continued, may lead to gout, with uric acid deposits in the joints, acute inflamations, and arterial and renal disease." Not getting the desired results, I was led to drop all the so-called antilithics, and rely sim-ply and solely upon a single remedy-Cascara Sagrada. Repeated trials have convinced me that the faulty metabolism is more quickly remedied with this drug alone than with any other or combinations. Mrs. G., aged fifty-five, was for years subject to uric-acid storms, and without getting relief. I exhibited the aromatic fluid extract made by Parke, Davis & Co., in ten to fifteen-drops doses, two or three times daily as demanded, finally settling down to one single dose at the close of the day. The effect was not at once apparant, but within two weeks there was marked amelioration of the aggravated symptoms, and in four weeks the swollen joints had almost resumed a normal appearance, the soreness having nearly disappeared. At this writing (two months having elapsed), there is no complaint whatever, but the remedy is continued. No change was made in the diet, as I desired to more fully test the remedy, and am fully satisfied that the good results were due solely to the Cascara. I have tried other brands of Cascara, but they have not been satisfactory, hence I have come to regard the fluid extract above alluded to as the only one upon which I can confidently rely. It never fails, hence my preference.-DOCTOR W. H. WALLING, in the Medical and Surgical Reporter, July 14th, 1894.
