WANDERING WILLIE.
Wil-lie went out one morn-ing,
The first of the sun to see ;
He heard the riv-u-let? laugh-ing, a
“I fol-low you home,” said he.
The riv-er had run for a thou-sand years,

Willie had liv-ed for three.3 Privulet, a little river or stream. Ploughing, the noise made by the water. 3three years.

Down by the sing-ing riv-er4
The rush-es5 had made their bed ;
“ Tis me to be king of the cas-tle ;"
Said Will, with a haugh-tye head.
He shoul-dered? a reed as a sen-try's gun,

Pac-ing with mar-tial tread.9 4singing river, the water made a pleasant noise. "Brushes, a very large kind of grass growing by the river side. Chaughty, proud. ishouldered, carried on his shoulder. 8 sentry, a watchman, who often carries a gun. pacing with martial tread, walking like a soldier.

Old mother sheep20 was feed-ing-
“What brings him, that boy, this way?”
She slow-ly came after Wil-lie,
The war-ri-or?1 edg-ed a-way ;12
The one that was dumb13 was in earn-est14 then,

Nei-ther en-joyed15 the play. 10 mother sheep, a sheep with her young lambs. 1warrior, soldier. 12edged away, moved slowly away. 13dumb, the sheep was dumb. 14in earnest, not playing. 15 enjoyed, liked.

" This is the gi-ant,”16 said Wil-lie.
“And I am the val-i-ant knight ;17
If only hel8 would not come quite so close,
I think I should like to fight."
The sheep fol-lowed clos-er, and clos-er yet;

Wil-lie grew white with fright. 19 16 giant, who lived in the castle. iivaliant knight, brave soldier. 18 he, the giant, that is the sheep. fright, fear.

Over the hedge went Wil-lie,
And into the ditch20 fell he;
The ground it was soft and no limb was scarred, 21
