PREFACE.

The following Sermons were preached to the children under the care of the “Beverley Church of England Sundayschool Society.”

When the Society was first instituted, accommodation was made for the Schools' attending Divine service at the parish churches, but as the number of children soon increased to upwards of six hundred, it was deemed advisable to assemble the greater part of them in a separate place of worship; and this step was thought the more eligible, because the Clergymen who had agreed to preach to them, in turn, would thus have an opportunity of adapting their Sermons, more especially, to the capacities of children :
