ra'ised up the third day, and she'wed him o'penly; 41 Not to all the people, but un'to wit'nesses cho'sen befo're of Go'd, 'e'ven' to us', who did e'at and drink' with him afʼter he rose from the dead'. 42 And he comman'ded us to pre'ach un'to the pe'ople, and to tes'tify that it is he which was ordained of Go'd 'to be' the Judg'e of quick' and dead'. 43 To him gave all the proph'ets wit'ness, that, through his name, whosoever believeth in him shall rece'ive remiss'ion of sins.

44 While Pe'ter yet spake these words, the Holy Gho'st fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which belie'ved were aston'ished, as man'y as came with Pe'ter, because that on the Gen'tiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Gho'st. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and mag'nify Go'd. Then an'swered Peter, 47 Can an'y man forbid' wa'ter, that these should not be bapti'zed, which have received the Holy Gho'st as well as we'? 48 And he comman'ded them to be baptized in the name of the Lo'rd. Then prayed they him to tar'ry certain days.

CHAP. XI. And the apos'tles and breth'ren that were in Jude'a heard that the Gen'tiles had also received the word of Go'd. 2 And when Pe'ter was come up to Jeru'salem, they that were of the circumcis'ion conten'ded with him, 3 Sa'ying, Thou wen'test in' to men uncircumcised, and didst e'at with them. But Pe'ter rehears'ed 'the mat'ter' from the beginning, and expoun'ded 'it' by o'rder un'to them, sa'ying, I was in the city of Jop'pa pra'ying: and in a tranc'e I saw a vision, A cer'tain ves'sel descend', as it had been a grea't she'et, let down from heav'en by fo'ur corners; and it came e'ven to me': 6 Upon the which when I had fas'tened mine eyes, I considered, and saw four-footed be'asts of the earth, and wi'ld be'asts, and cre'eping things, and fowls of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Ari'se, Pe'ter; sla'y, and e'at. But I said, Not' so, Lo'rd: for nothing com'mon or uncle'an hath at an'y time en'tered into my mouth'. 9 But the voice an'swered me again' from heaven, What Go'd hath cleansed, that' ca'll not thou com'mon. 10 And this was done three times and all were dra'wn up again' in'to heav'en. And, beho'ld, imme'diately there were three men alread'y come into the house where I was', sent from Cesare'a un'to me. 12 And the Spirit bade me go with them,

nothing doubt'ing. Moreo'ver, these six breth'ren accom'panied me, and we en'tered in'to the man's house : he she'wed us how he had seen an a'ngel in his house, which stood and said un'to him, Send men to Jop'pa, and call for Si'mon, whose sur'name is Pe'ter; 14 Who shall tell thee words whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15 And as I began' to spe'ak, the Holy Gho'st fell on them', as on us' at the begin'ning. 16 Then remembered I the word of the Lo'rd, how that he said, John inde'ed baptized with wa'ter; but ye' shall be bapti'zed with the Holy Gho'st. 17 Forasmuch then as Go'd gave them' the like gift as he did' un'to us', who belie'ved on the Lo'rd Je'sus Chri'st, what was I', that I could withstand' Go'd? 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glo'rified Go'd, sa'ying, Then hath Go'd also to the Gen'tiles gran'ted repen'tance un'to life.

19 Now they which were scattered abroad, upon' the persecution that aro'se about' Ste'phen, travelled as far as Pheni'ce, and Cy'prus, and An'tioch, pre'aching the word to none but un'to the Jews o'nly. 20 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyre'ne, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake un'to the Gre'cians, pre'aching the Lo'rd Je'ṣus. 21 And the hand of the Lo'rd was with' them and a great number belie'ved, and turned un'to the Lo'rd.

22 Then ti'dings of these things came un'to the e'ars of the church which was in Jerusalem and they sent fo'rth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch : 23 Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of Go'd, was glad', and exho'rted them a'll, that with purpose of heart they would cle'ave un'to the Lo'rd. 24 For he was a good' man, and full of the Holy Gho'st and of fa'ith and much pe'ople was ad'ded un'to the Lo'rd. 25 Then departed Ba'rnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Sa'ul: 26 And when he had found him, he brought him un'to An'tioch. And it came to pass', that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disci'ples were called Chris'tians first in An'tioch.

27 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem un'to An'tioch. 28 And there stood up one of them, na'med Ag'abus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be grea't dearth throughout' a'll the world: which came to pass' in the days of Cla'udius Ce'sar. 29 Then the disci'ples, ev'ery man according to his ability, deter'mined to send

relie'f un'to the breth'ren which dwelt in Jude'a: 30 Which a'lso they did', and sent it to the el'ders by the hands of Barnabas and Sa'ul.

CHAP. XII. Now, about' that time, Her'od the king stretched fo'rth 'his' hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed Ja'mes, the broth'er of John, with the swo'rd. 3 And because he saw it ple'ased the Jews, he proce'eded farther to take Pe'ter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) And when he had apprehẹn'ded him, he put' 'him' in pris'on, and delivered 'him' to four quaternions of so'ldiers to keep him; inten'ding after Easter to bring him fo'rth to the pe'ople. Pe'ter therefore was kept in pris'on; but pra'yer was made without' ce'asing of the church un'to Go'd for him. 6 And when Herod would have bro'ught him fo'rth, the same night Pe'ter was sleeping betwe'en two so'ldiers, bound with two cha'ins and the ke'epers befo're the do'or kept the prison. 7 And, behold, the angel of the Lo'rd came upon' him,' and a light shi'ned in the pris'on: and he smote Peter on the si'de, and ra'ised him up, sa'ying, Ari'se up quickly. And his cha'ins fell off from 'his' hands. And the a'ngel said unto him, Gird' thyself', and bi'nd on thy san'dals: and so he did'. And he saith un'to him, Cast' thy garment about' thee, and follow me. 9 And he went out, and fol'lowed him; and wist not that it was tru'e which was done by the a'ngel; but thought he saw a vision. 10 When they were past the first and the second wa'rd, they came un'to the iron gate that le'adeth un'to the city; which o'pened to them of his own acco'rd: and they went out, and passed on' through one street; and forthwith' the angel departed from him." 11 And when Pe'ter was come to himself', he said, Now I know of a su'rety, that the Lord hath sent his a'ngel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Her'od, and 'from' a'll the expecta'tion of the pe'ople of the Jews. 12 And when he had consid ́ered ‘the thing,' he came to the house of Ma'ry the moth'er of John, whose sur'name was Ma'rk; where man'y were gath'ered togeth'er pra'ying. 13 And as Pe'ter knocked at the do'or of the gate, a dam'ṣel came to hea'rken, named Rho'da. 14 And when she knew Pe'ter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but rạn in', and to'ld how Pe'ter stood befo're the gate. 15 And they said un'to her, Thou art mad. But she con'stantly affirm'ed that it was e'ven so. Thẹn said

they, It is his a'ngel. 16 But Pe'ter contin'ued knock'ing: and when they had o'pened the do'or,' and saw him, they were aston'ished. 17 But he, beck'oning un'to them with the hand to hold their peace, decla'red un'to them how the Lo'rd had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things un'to Ja'mes, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went in'to anoth'er place. 18 Now, as soon as it was day, there was no small stir' amon'g the soldiers, what was become of Pe'ter. 19 And when Her'od had sought for him, and found him not, he exam'ined the ke'epers, and comman'ded that 'they' should be put to death'. And he went down from Jude'a to Cesare'a, and there' abo'de.

20 And Her'od was highly disple'ased with them of Ty're and Si'don but they came with one acco'rd to him; and, hav'ing made Blas'tus the king's cha'mberlain their friend, desi'red peace; because their coun'try was nourished by the king's coun'try.' 21 And upon' a set day, Her'od, arra'yed in roy'al apparel, sat upon' his thro'nę, and made an ora'tion un'to them. 22 And the people gave a shout, 'sa'ying, It is the voice of a go'd, and not of a man'. 23 And immediately the angel of the Lo'rd smo'tẹ him, because he gave not Go'd the glo'ry: and he was e'aten of worms, and gave up the gho'st.

24 But the word of Go'd grew and multiplied. 25 And Barnabas and Sa'ul retur'ned from Jeru'salem, when they had fulfilled their min'istry, and took' with them John', whose sur'name was Ma'rk.

CHAP. XIII. Now there were in the church that was at An'tioch certain proph'ets and te'achers; as Barnabas, and Sim'eon that was called Ni'ger, and Lu'cius of Cyre'ne, and Mana'en, which had been brought up with Her'od the te'trarch, and Sa'ul. 2 As they min'istered to the Lo'rd, and fas'ted, the Holy Gho'st said, Sep'arate me Ba'rnabas and Sa'ul for the work whereunto' I have called them. 3 And when they had fas'ted and prayed, and laid 'their hands on them, they sent them' awa'y. 4 So they, being sent forth by the Holy Gho'st, departed un'to Seleu'cia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus. 5 And when they were at Sal'amis, they pre'ached the word of Go'd in the synagogues of the Jews and they had also John' to 'their' min'ister.

6 And when they had gone through the isle un'to Pa'phos,

they found a certain so'rcerer, a false proph'et, a Jew', whose name was' Bar-je'sus; 7 Which was with the dep'uty of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; whọ called for Barnabas and Sa'ul, and deși'red to hear the word of God. 8 But El'ymas the so'rcerer (for so is his name by interpreta'tion) withstood' them, se'eking to turn awa'y the dẹp'uty from the fa'ith. 9 Then Sa'ul, (who also 'is called' Paul,) filled with the Holy Gho'st, set his eyes on him, 10 And said, O full' of a'll sub'tilty and a'll mis'chief, thou' child of the dev'il, thou' en'emy of all right'eousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert' the right wa'ys of the Lo'rd? 11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lo'rd 'is' upon' thee, and thou shalt be bli'nd, not seeing the sun for a se'ason. And imme'diately there fell' on him a mist' and a da'rkness; and he went about' se'eking somẹ to lead him by the hand. 12 Then the dep'uty, when he saw what was done, belie'ved, be'ing aston'ished at the doc'trine of the Lo'rd.

13 Now when Pa'ul and his com'pany lo'osed from Pa'phos, they came to Per'ga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, retur'ned to Jeru'salem. 14 But when they departed from Per'ga, they came to An'tioch in Pisid'ia, and went into the synagogue on the sab'bath-day, and sat down. 15 And after the re'ading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the syn'agogue sent un'to them, sa'ying, 'Ye' men 'and' breth'ren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the pe'ople, say on'. 16 Then Pa'ul stood' up, and beck'oning with 'his' hand, said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear Go'd, give a'udience. 17 The Go'd of this pe'ople of Israel chose our fa'thers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as stra'ngers in the land of Egypt, and with an high a'rm bro'ught he them out of it. 18 And about' the time of fo'rty years suf'fered he their man'ners in the wilderness. 19 And when he had destroy'ed sev'en na'tions in the land of Cha'naan, he divi'ded their land to them by lot'. 20 And after that' he gave 'un'to them' judges, about' the space of fo'ur hun'dred and fif'ty years, until' Sam'uel the proph'et. 21 And afterward they desired a king and Go'd gave un'to them Sa'ul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Ben'jamin, by the space of fo'rty years. 22 And when he had removed him', he ra'ised up un'to them Da'vid to be their king: to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found Da'vid the 'son' of Jes'se, a man
