Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. 8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. 9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. 24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and to cast it to dogs. 27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table. 28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour. 34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. 35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they did all eat, and were filled : and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. 38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children. 39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala. THE CHAP. XVI. THE Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. 5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. 7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread. 29 And Jesus departed from thence, 8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye went up into a mountain, and sat down there. among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread? 30 And great multitudes came unto him, 9 Do ye not yet understand, neither rehaving with them those that were lame, member the five loaves of the five thousand, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and how many baskets ye took up? and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he 10 Neither the seven loaves of the four healed them: thousand, and how many baskets ye took 31 Insomuch that the multitude won-up? dered, when they saw the dumb to speak, 11 How is it that ye do not understand the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, that I spake it not to you concerning bread, Christ foreshews his death. Bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil, and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some If ye have faith as a grain of mustard-seed, standing here, which shall not taste of death, death, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove till they see the Son of man coming in his hence to yonder place, and it shall remove; kingdom. and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 1 S. A CHAP. XIX. ND it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea, beyond Jordan: 2 And great multitudes followed him, and he healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning, made them male and female, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. 15 And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence. \ 16 And behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life ? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. 18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 20 The young man saith unto liim, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of 5 And said, For this cause shall a man heaven. leave father and mother, and shall cleave to 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but than for a rich man to enter into the kingone flesh.
