Christ's charge to his disciples. S. MATTHEW. able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. 29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith, be it unto you. 30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straitly charged them, saying, See that no man know it. 31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country. 32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. 33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils, through the prince of the devils. He comforts them. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house, or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily, I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, in the day of judgment, than for that city. 16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will 35 And Jesus went about all the cities deliver you up to the councils, and they and villages, teaching in their synagogues, will scourge you in their synagogues. and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, 18 And ye shall be brought before goand healing every sickness, and every dis-vernors and kings for my sake, for a testiease among the people. mony against them and the Gentiles. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, 19 But when they deliver you up, take he was moved with compassion on them, no thought how or what ye shall speak, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest. A CHAP. X. ND when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; for it shall be given you in that same hour what ve shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone.over the cities of Israel till the Son of man be come. 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 3 Philip, and Bartholomew: Thomas, 25 It is enough for the disciple that he and Matthew the publican; James the son be as his master, and the servant as his of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname lord: if they have called the master of the was Thaddeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 51 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not. 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses; 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: (for the workman is worthy of his meat.) 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the house-tops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. CHAP. XIII. THE same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea-side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way-side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony-places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell the care of this world, and the deceitfulness by the way-side, and the fowls came and of riches choke the word, and he becometh devoured them up: unfruitful. 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is Herod's opinion of Christ. of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 441 Again, The kin kingdom of heaven ir like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for 27 So the servants of the householder joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou hath, and buyeth that field. sow good seed in thy field? from whence 45 Again, The kingdom of heaven is then hath it tares ? like unto a merchant-man seeking goodly 28 He said unto them, An enemy hath pearls: done this. They say unto him, Yea, Lord. 52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven, is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. 53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence. 54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son ? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, 36 Then Jesus sent the multitude James, and Joses, and Simon, and Juaway, and went into the house and his das? disciples came unto him, saying, Declare 56 And his sisters, are they not all with unto us the parable of the tares of the field. us? But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 58 And he did not many mighty works 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and reapers there, because of their unbelief. therefore the angelsre gathered Athat time Herod the Tetrarch heard of and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the 2 And said unto his servants, This is end of this world.
