3 Dear Shepherd of thy chosen few,
Thy former mercies here renew;
Here to our waiting hearts proclaim
The sweetness of thy saving name.

4 Here may we prove the power of prayer,
To strengthen faith, and sweeten care:
To teach our faint desires to rise,
And bring all heaven before our eyes.

82. FAMILY WORSHIP. (Elim.)

1 "Tis good, unutterably good,
Daily to live in prayer,
To rear an Altar to our God,
And meet rejoicing there.

2 No nobler, no more cheering sight
In this dark world we see,

Than when a household all unite
In fervent piety.

3 The christian's heart is Jesu's throne, His home is Jesu's too;

He is not left an hour alone,

Nor hid from Jesu's view.

4 Sweet home! where fellowship divine, The soul with grace supplies,

Such home, O God, be ever mine,
And mine such hallowed joys.

83. Acts x. 36. (Miles's Lane.)

1 All hail the great Immanuel's name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,

And crown Him Lord of all.

2 Crown Him, ye martyrs of our God,
Who from his altar call;

Extol the stem of Jesse's rod,
And crown Him Lord of all.

3 Ye chosen seed of Jacob's race,
A remnant weak, and small,
Hail Him who saves you by his grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.

4 Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,

To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all.

84. EBENEZER. I Sam. vii. 12. (Vienna.)

1 COME, thou fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for of loudest praise:

songs

Here I raise my Ebenezer,
Hither by thy help I'm come;
And I hope by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

2 Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
He, to save my soul from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.
O! to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be !
Let thy grace, Lord, like a fetter.
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

85.

RESIGNATION. (St. David's.)

1 O Lord, my best desire fulfil,

And help me to resign

Life, health, and comfort to thy will,
And make thy pleasure mine.

2 Why should I shrink at thy command Whose love forbids my fears?

Or tremble at the gracious hand
That wipes away my tears?

3 No! rather let me freely yield
What most I prize to Thee;
Who never hast a good withheld,
Or wilt withhold from me.

4 Thy favour all my journey through,
Thou art engaged to grant;
What else I want, or think I do,
'Tis better still to want.

5 Wisdom and mercy guide my way,
Shall I resist them both ?
poor blind creature of a day,

A

And crushed before a moth!

86.

Prov. xvii. 17. (Job.)

1 When every scene this side the grave
Seems dark and cheerless, to the eye,
How sweet at such a time to have
A Brother in adversity!

2 When father, mother, all are gone;
When bursts affection's closet ties;
How sweet to claim as still our own,
A Brother in adversity!

1 And who is this whom still we find,
When father, mother, husband, die,-
So faithful, loving, tender, kind,-
A Brother in adversity!

4 Jesus, 'tis Thou ;-ah! who can trace
Thy love unchanging, full, and free!
Or tell the riches of thy grace,
Thou Brother in adversity!

PRAYER FOR FAITH. (Abridge.)

1 Lord of all wisdom, power, and love,
Fountain of bliss divine!

Send us thy Spirit from above
And keep us ever thine.

2 Teach us when threat'ning ill appears, When clouds and tempests rise,

Ou Thee to stay our needless fears,
Because Thou, Lord, art wise.

3 Though sin and sorrow, death and hell Against our souls combine,

Let cheering faith our doubts dispel;
For boundless power is thine.

4 And when thy chastenings, gracious God, A father's kindness prove,

O! may we neekly kiss thy rod,

Because Thou, Lord, art Love.
