From Zion his abode,

Proclaim his deeds till all the world
Confess no other God.

Ps. xix. (Creation.)

1 The spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,

And spangled heavens, a shining frame,
Their great Original proclaim.
The unwearied sun, from day to day,
Does his Creator's power display,
And publishes to every land

The works of an Almighty hand.

2 Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly, to the listening earth,
Repeats the story of her birth;

Whilst all the stars that round her burn,
And all the planets in their turn,
Confirm the tidings as they roll,
And spread the truth from pole to pole.

3 What though in solemn silence all
Move round this dark terrestrial ball?
What though no real voice nor sound
Amid tl.eir radiant orbs be found?

In reason's ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious voice;
For ever singing, as they shine,
"The hand that made us is divine."

8. Ps. xxiii. Ist version. (Carey's.)

1 The Lord my pasture shall prepare
And feed me with a shepherd's care
His presence shall my wants supply
And guard me with a watchful ey
My noon-day walks He shall atten
And all my midnight hours defend

2 When in the sultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant,
To fertile vales and dewy meads,
My wearywandering steps He leads
Where peaceful rivers soft and slow,
Amid the verdant landscape flow.

3 Though in the paths of death I tread,
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My steadfast heart shall fear no ill;
For thou, O Lord, art with me still
Thy friendly crook shall give me aid,
And guide me through the dreadful shade.

9. Ps. xxiii. 2nd Version. (Portuguese.)

1 The Lord is my Shepherd, I never shall need, Protected by Him I am happy and blest, In pastures of inercy my spirit shall feed,

By waters of life He shall lead me to rest.

2 My heart, too deceitful, oft wanders astray,
And yields to the impulse of evil within,
Yet Jesus restores me again to the way, [sin.
Where trembling I shrink from the horrors of

3 When floods of temptation are raging and high, And threaten my soul with confusion to fill, O then is my Shepherd in faithfulness nigh, The tempest shall cease, and the waters be still.

4 Say why should I fear the dark valley of death ? Or shrink from the conflicts that bring me to

God,

For then I shall see my dear Shepherd by faith, And feel H supporting my soal with his rod,

5 Thy table is spread, and thy bounties prepared, Such hallowed enjoyments no foe can remove Thy mercies again and again I have shared; My cup overflows with the fulness of love.

6 Thy goodness assuredly never can cease,
Thy covenant mercy shall crown all my days
At death I shall dwell in the temple of peace,
And rest not for ever from singing thy praise.

Ps. xxiv. (Preston.)

1 Erect your heads, eternal gates,
Unfold to entertain

The King of glory; see! He comes
With his celestial train.

Who is the King of glory? who?

The Lord for strength renowned, In battle mighty o'er his foes, Eternal victor crowned.

2 Erect your heads, ye gates unfold
In state to entertain,

The King of glory; see! He comes
With all his shining train.
Who is the King of glory? who?
The Lord of hosts renowned;
Of glory he alone is King,
Who is with glory crowned.

Thy mercies and thy love
O Lord recall to mind,

And graciously continue still,
As Thou wert ever, kind.

Let all my youthful crimes

Be blotted out by Thee:

And for thy wondrous goodness' sake
In mercy think on me.

His mercy and his truth,
The righteous Lord displays,

In bringing wand'ring sinners home.
And teaching them his

ways.

He those in justice guides,
Who his direction seek;

And in his sacred paths shall lead
The humble and the meek.
