31 Then he took unto him the twelve,

32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death; and the third day he shall rise again.

MATTHEW XX. 21.

Εἰπὲ ἵνα καθίσωσιν οὗτοι οἱ δύο υἱοί μου

εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν σου καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων σου

ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ σου.

23 'Αποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ̓Ιησοῦς εἶπεν Οὐκ οἴδατε τί αἰτεῖσθε. Δύνασθε πιεῖν τὸ ποτήριον ὃ ἐγὼ μέλλω πίνειν ; (καὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ὁ ἔγω βαπτίζομαι βαπτισθῆναι) λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Δυνάμεθα. 23 Λέγει αὐτοῖς τὸ μὲν ποτήριόν μου πίεσθε, (καὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ὁ ἐγω βαπτίζομαι βαπτι σθήσεσθε)

τὸ δὲ καθίσαι ἐκ δεξιῶν μου καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων, οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὸν τοῦτο δοῦναι ἀλλ ̓ οἷς ἡτοίμασται ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου.

24 ̓Ακούσαντες δὲ οἱ δέκα ἠγανάκτησαν περὶ τῶν δύο ἀδελφῶν.

26 'Ο δὲ Ἰησοῦς προσκαλε σάμενος αὐτοὺς εἶπεν Οἴδατε ὅτι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν ἐθνῶν

κατακυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ μεγάλοι

κατεξουσιάζουσιν αὐτῶν.

Οὐχ οὕτως ἔσται ἐν

ὑμῖν· ἀλλ ̓ ὃς ἐὰν θέλῃ ὑμῶν μέγας γενέσθαι, ἔστω ὑμῶν διάκονος,

27 Καὶ ὃς ἐὰν θέλῃ ἐν ὑμῖν εἶναι πρῶτος, ἔστω

MATTHEW XX. 21.

Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom.

22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not

what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup,

and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with:

but to sit on my right hand, and on my left,

Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

38 But Jesus

said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they say unto him, We can.

And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with

the baptism that I am baptized withal

shall ye be baptized: 40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand

shall be given to them

for whom it is prepared

of my Father.

it, they were

moved with indignation
against the two brethren.
25 But Jesus called them
unto him, and said,
Ye know that the
princes of

the Gentiles exercise do-
minion over them; and they
that are great exercise
authority upon them.
26 But it shall not be so
among you: but whosoever
will be great among you,
let him be your minister;
27 And whosoever
will be chief among you,
let him be your servant :
28 Even as the Son of man

shall be given to them

for whom it is prepared.

41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased

with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44 And whosoever of you I will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man
