PREFACE. With the publication of Vols. XIX and XX in 1913 the Transactions of the Luzerne County Medical Society were temporarily suspended owing to the fact that the Society was about entering upon a larger project-the erection of a building for its library and for general uses and felt the necessity for conserving its finances. Later during the world war, with the Society still in debt it was deemed inadvisable to incur the expense of an annual volume. Happily the new building is an accomplished fact and the debt on same has been paid and Vol. XXI of our Transactions for the year ending December 31, 1919, appears. It has been impossible to collect and publish all of the excellent papers that were read between 1912 and 1919, but some of them may appear later. Owing also to the size of the present volume, occasioned partly by the desire to preserve the war record of our members, the biographies of our deceased members are omitted until a subsequent volume is issued. We regret exceedingly that we could not make the war record complete. This is due to the indifference on the part of members in responding to request for information. The new ByLaws recently adopted by the Society appear at the end of this volume. LEWIS H. TAYLOR, Editor. EDWARD WELLES BIXBY, RAYMOND LYNDE WADHAMS, Publication Committee. · 17631 TABLE OF CONTENTS.
