CHAPTER XXXVI.

THE SECOND ADVENT AND GENERAL JUDGMENT.

9 Come up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, that handle the shield; and the Lydians, that handle and bend the bow..

10 For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with the blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

(b) In the Old Testament for Christ's first advent:

MATT. iii.

2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: 3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. MALACHI iv.

5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

(c) The terms in the New Testament relating to this great subject are, (A) 'AñoKáλvic, a revelation, a manifestation. From ἀποκαλύπτω, to reveal. Occurs 18 times:

for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

I PETER i. 5, 12.

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

1 The elders which are among you exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

And Jesus answered and said unto thein, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive

many.

26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth:

(C) Kalúnτw, to cover, to conceal, as by behold, he is in the secret chambers; be

darkness, or dishonour, or by one's garments. Occurs 8 times:
