In Homer, only a departed soul, spirit, ghost, which still retained the shape of its living owner. (y) Generally the soul or spirit of man, “ ἀνθρώπου Luxǹ áðávarós lori," the soul of man is immortal. “à μeλéa &vxý,” O wretched being. (d') Also the seat of the will, desires, and passions; “¿K TÕs vxns," from the inmost soul, with all the heart, desire, appetite. (E) The soul, the mind, reason, understanding. EPH. vi. “ ποιοῦντες τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐκ ψυχῆς,” Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers, but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. PHIL. i.
