Here let there be sung a Hymn or an Anthem.

Then, after a space for silent prayer, let the Minister first receive the Communion in both kinds himself, and proceed to deliver the same to the Clergy, in like manner, (if any be with him in the Chancel,) and, after that, to the people also in order, into their hands. And when he delivereth the bread, let him say:

TAKE and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for

thee, and feed on Him in thy heart by faith, with thanksgiving.

DRIN

And let the Minister who delivereth the Cup, say:

RINK this in remembrance that Christ's Blood was shed for thee, and be thankful.

When all have communicated, let there be sung a hymn from the selection. Or this:

GL

LORY be to God on high, and on earth peace, good will towards men. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee, for Thy great glory, O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father Almighty.

O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us.

For Thou only art holy; Thou only art the Lord; Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, who didst ordain in this holy Supper, a perpetual memorial of thy bitter passion and atoning death, and dost invite us to Thy table, that our souls may be nourished by Thee, the Bread of eternal life; grant unto us, we beseech Thee, such faith in Thy

promises that we may receive the full fruition of Thy love, and attain at last, with all Thy saints, to the marriage supper in the kingdom of Thy glory, where Thou livest and reignest, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

O Blessed Saviour, whose love to sinners passeth the comprehension of men and of angels, and will be the theme of grateful praise throughout the ages of eternity; impress upon us, we beseech Thee, such a deep and abiding sense of our indebtedness for Thy great salvation, that we may wholly live to Thy glory, and serve Thee in holiness and righteousness all our days, until we join in the songs of Thy redeemed in heaven, where, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, Thou art worshiped and glorified, world without end. Amen.

Then let the Minister dismiss them with this benediction:

THE peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you, and remain with you always. Amen.

Or this:

HE God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will; working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight; through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

THE FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT.

MORNING.

THE EPISTLE.-Rom. xiii. 8.

WE no man anything, but to love one another; for he that

commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Love worketh no ill to his neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

THE GOSPEL.- St. Matt. xxi. 1.

HEN they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the Mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her; loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them; and brought the ass and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set Him thereon. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strewed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! And when He was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? and the multitude said, This is Jesus, the Prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

PSALM XVIII.-Part 1.

WILL love Thee, O Lord, my strength.

2. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

4. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

5. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

6. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God:

He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, even into His ears.

7. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because He was wroth.

8. There went up a smoke out of His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

9. He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under His feet.

10. And He rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, He did fly upon the wings of the wind.

11. He made darkness His secret place; his pavilion round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

12. At the brightness that was before Him His thick clouds passed, hail-stones and coals of fire.

13. The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave His voice; hail-stones and coals of fire.

14. Yea, He sent out His arrows, and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

15. Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at Thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Thy nostrils.

16. He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

17. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

18. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

19. He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

20. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me.

21. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

22. For all His judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.

23. I was also upright before Him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.

24. Therefore hath the Lord recompensed me according to my
