Introductory.

The fourth volume of the "American Homœopathic Observer' is issued with much satisfaction. From a small commencement, with a few friends, it has attained to the position of the most favored representative of the Homœopathic profession of the United States. Its growth has not been very rapid, but it has been persistent. While many medical magazines, of greater promise in the commencement, have been doomed to a mere ephemeral existence, ours has progressed, month by month, until it has gained friends and literary support sufficient to secure its permanence and prosperity.

The present volume contains articles from the pens of seventyeight different writers. The names of three old contributors. have been dropped off, but there has been an accession of twentyeight new ones. Improvement will be noticed in the value of the articles contributed, and the year 1868 will doubtless bring us aid from many who can write to the profit of our readers. We desire most particularly to request a larger number of reports of cases cured with single remedies. While acknowledging that other reports are frequently worthy of publication, yet they are of little value compared with definite accounts of cures where but a single medicine was employed throughout the treatment.

In the introduction to the volume for 1866 we expressed the hope that we should be able to make up at least one-half of each number with valuable original papers and the remainder with selections from other journals. So liberally have our contributors worked for us that we have made our magazine almost
